PLYMOUTH DAKAR 2005 |
Well this is it… The beast that will hopefully take us 4000 miles from the South of England to Banjul the capital of The Gambia. |
In all its Glory we have here a left hand drive Fiat 128 3P, which cost the princely sum of £100 English pounds. Many of you maybe looking at this marvellous peice of Italian machinery thinking either what a bargain we got, or maybe that we are just lying about the cost! Hopefully the pictures of its former lack of glory will help you to understand. |

The sale |
Our car was discovered as with most old bangers on Ebay, through a private sale of a non-runner with paint falling off, brakes seized, electrics not working and no exhaust (to name but a few teething troubles) Anyway the point being we have ourselves a car! |
The Tarting up process |
With a lot of help from one of our sponsors (D & D services), the work of tarting the car up, and oh yeh, also trying to get it road worthy and running began. |
The car wrapped up, ready for spraying |
With the addition of a new cam belt, air intake modifications, exhaust being built, brakes being freed up and the standard rally sump guard and bonnet modification the car was on the way to actually running ok. |
The car after many, many, many hours of bloody sanding and filling |
After what seemed like many hundreds of hours of sanding the crumbling old paintwork off, and then (to absolutely no supprise) the discovery of several hundred kilos of filler... The car was ready to spray |
Along with the vital addition of black go faster stripes (as something had to make it go faster) the car was almost complete. After achieving full status as a road legal and MOT awarded car we have reached the stage where we can drive it round the UK to be laughed at! Great. |
THE FINSHED BEAST– YES THIS IS THE CAR!! |
This is the car in its finished state. All that needs to be done is to stick the camel mascot on the front! The car is now ready to be tested on the roads of the UK. So please look out for us. (probably on the hard shoulder) I would also like to add that exactly £15 has been spent on the total modification of our car please read the following breakdown of costs: |
Costs Car: £100 Parts ________________ Wing mirrors: £10 Set of points: £5 TOTAL: £15 |
